Travelling to Malta

We are pleased to share @craftycoeliacuk‘s recent experience dining in Malta. While we acknowledge there’s still room for improvement when eating out in Malta it is encouraging to see positive feedback like this.

Malta was the first place I’d travelled to since being diagnosed with coeliac disease last year. Naturally, I was a bit apprehensive and did a lot of research beforehand — looking up different places to eat and reading about other people’s experiences.

During my research, I came across the Coeliac Association of Malta and their incredibly handy eating out guide (which made my planning a LOT easier!).

On my first day in Malta, I spent quite a bit of time walking past restaurants as my nerves got the better of me — I was worried about “causing a fuss”… but I really shouldn’t have been! It quickly became clear that most restaurants had a great understanding of coeliac disease and were extremely accommodating.

Places that couldn’t guarantee no cross-contamination were very upfront about it and even recommended other spots, which I thought was fantastic.

For a first holiday abroad as a coeliac, Malta was probably one of the best countries I could have chosen.

I’ll absolutely be back — there are so many more places I didn’t get the chance to try!
